Mary Arpe is the President and founder of Community Compact, Inc., and has experience in educational, corporate, legal, and nonprofit sectors. A graduate of Vassar College and the University of Florida Law School, she has worked for a large state university, for IBM, and for the law firm Gelfand and Arpe, PA., where she has been an equity partner since 1991. Mary has served in leadership roles with a number of nonprofit organizations in Palm Beach County including the United Way, the Palm Beach County Literacy Coalition, The Nelle Smith Residence for Girls, Toward a More Perfect Union, and the Palm Beach Habilitation Center. She is a graduate of Leadership Palm Beach County. It is from this wide range of experience that Mary founded Community Compact, Inc. in 2008. The nonprofit was originally conceived to fill the gap in partnerships between nonprofit organizations and institutions of higher education. Today it includes several initiatives including Gleaning Greatness, which was created to provide college choice programs to high potential high school students in rural areas of the country. Mary resides in downtown West Palm Beach with her husband Michael, with whom she has raised a daughter Sarah.




Ellen Kentner has a long history of experience working with children’s books, and youth and families. Ellen began her career promoting children’s books with Farrar, Straus & Giroux and Crown Publishers in New York City. After moving to Florida, she continued to promote literacy and reading in schools and has worked with various nonprofit organizations including the Episcopal Church and Toward A More Perfect Union. Ellen currently works in Youth Services with the Palm Beach County Library System in Pahokee, FL—a position that incorporates her experience, education, and interests. Ellen and her husband Bobby have four “young adult” children and share a passion for mission work, good books, and traveling.




GREGORY MAXWELL has been teaching Mathematics at Pahokee Middle High School (Palm Beach County School District) since 2005. In this position he has been the Mathematics Instructional Leader for the IB Program, and served as the Mathematics Department Chairperson. He has also established the AP Calculus program, and Advanced Mathematics IB coursework (Mathematics Standard Level, Mathematics Higher Level and Further Mathematics).Mr. Maxwell has also taught courses at Broward State Colleges and Palm Beach State Colleges.  Some of the courses he has taught at these colleges   include  Business Calculus, Trigonometry, Statistics, College Algebra, Calculus with Analytical Geometry and Math for Liberal Arts 1 and 2.

Mr. Maxwell attended Florida Atlantic University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, Magna Cum Laude (2002), his Master of Science in Mathematics, (2004) and his Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction (2005).
